“BLEST BE THE TIE THAT BINDS” America to Indonesia
Summer - 2004 Having completed
the course of a
most wonderful
journey to visit The Holy Way Family of Indonesia, many thoughts
surface which emphasize the importance of our coming together at this
critical hour of church history concerning the Holy Way ministry and
our responsibility to the original vision and to one another.
That vision was given by the Lord Jesus to Fr. Stube in the early 60's, and includes prayer, worship in the Spirit and discipleship training with evangelism patterned the way Jesus taught and demonstrated to His first disciples. Being primarily a fellowship of outreach, the Holy Way always functioned in cooperation with the churches. It has also produced many graduates as pastors, teachers and evangelists in various churches throughout the islands. Built on this foundation, the growth of Christianity in Indonesia over the years has been phenomenal, spreading all over the nation. For this, our hearts rejoice! However, recently a factor has entered in which causes heaviness of heart to many of us, because some in leadership at the Lawang Bible Training Center made a decision to break away from the original vision. They have chosen to become a church denomination and are now known as Gereja Jalan Suci or The Holy Way Church. For the elders who were not in agreement, this decision has caused much anguish and has sorely affected some of the branches. Aside from the separation of fellowship which is painful enough, these brothers and sisters have been left bereft of everything, i.e. established places to live, meet, teach and worship together. It also needs to be stated, that in re-grouping, they have adopted the name: The Holy Way Foundation. Therefore there are now two “Holy Ways” in Indonesia: The Holy Way Church and The Holy Way Foundation. Nevertheless, there is good news to report which far outweighs the upheaval of this distressing separation. Herry, Dolly Stube, Pat Acker and myself met with many elders of The Holy Way Foundation from Day-1 during June/July. The desire of these men and women is to remain faithful to the original vision. After spending much time in prayer and communication together it was clearly evident that we were in unity of thought and purpose, resulting in a solid understanding between the groups, which is so vital. Included among these elders, were at least three or more “first generation” men, who trained under Edwin Stube. We were in absolute awe to see the fruit of their labors in many places, where they continue to carry the Gospel of Jesus Christ forward, touching hundreds, more likely even thousands of souls! Hallelujah! Advance plans were
well executed for us to
fellowship at many sites during our 3-week visit. This involved
extensive travel, but everything proceeded smooth-as-silk. One evening,
it was astounding and humbling, to meet way up in the mountains
for worship with refugees from Ambon. These precious people managed to
get away from the enemy, fleeing torched homes, churches, and
atrocities. As some teenage students under the elder’s tutelage shared
earlier [at a temporary home, based in Manado,] it was horrifying to
hear of the narrow escapes so many suffered, running fearfully
through dark snake- infested jungles, trying to find freedom. It was
also extremely difficult for them to relate these stories to us since
many are still traumatized, agonizing about their families. One can
easily imagine, there was not a dry eye in the place. We were
moved in our spirits with compassion and grief. On another sweltering tropical day, people came from far and wide to meet us and worship together in a cow pasture with plastic tarps arranged overhead on bamboo framing. It was at this place, Pat and I were asked to join in prayer with Monyka, [one of our hostesses] for the dedication of two infants. What a privilege! Another meeting took place one day way up in the mountains where many elderly people came, especially ladies, for praise and worship. Some of them walked 2 miles or more on rough terrain, so we could worship the Lord together. Many families came with children too and 3 beautiful young girls, dressed in flowing yellow gowns, danced during the worship so beautifully! The joy of the Lord was literally overflowing! We also had the opportunity to meet in several homes, and a vivid recollection was meeting in a place called Bitung at a home surrounded by Moslems. In front of their little dwelling is a concrete shell of a building about 40ft. in circumference, no roof, no sides. The saints there have received many threats, and our hearts desire is to see that building completed so all can worship in privacy and comfort. While at Bitung, after worship and fellowship, we had an opportunity to minister the healing touch of Jesus to three elderly women with osteoarthritis and others with deep emotional needs plus some with physical wounds. The Lord did miracles there! Afterwards, to witness their tears, joy and freedom of movement was awesome! Their level of faith and expectancy was so high, that the Holy Spirit freely moved in might and power. Glory! Philipus Sukampto blessed us as interpreter since Herry was off praying for others. It’s also amazing to observe that the majority of our brothers and sisters in Indonesia travel for hours to reach all fellowships, whether in a rented hotel ballroom in the city, way far out in the country, high up in the mountains or to another island. They commute by motor bikes and vans, sometime even by plane in order to attend meetings or fellowships, and think nothing of it! Wow! They are a people zealous to minister unto the Lord, since they hunger for His presence in their lives. It’s very evident also, they are on fire for Him and have experienced transformation. As a result, with rejoicing, they want to share the good news. It is also noteworthy to mention, that since the separation created by Lawang, the ministry of The Holy Way Foundation is spreading to even more cities and islands. Hallelujah! We were also blessed by the gracious hospitality of everyone, and the food served at every gathering was absolutely delicious, most often prepared on a small wood-burning stove. These are just a few instances we have touched on . The complete picture of the grandeur of this journey could fill a book! It would include outstanding times of recreation too, like walking way out in a river, [not on it, ha-ha] to take a boat trip to a National South Seas Park, Bunaken. There we enjoyed viewing coral shoals and fish which were simply beautiful, drinking milk from fresh coconuts and buying some lovely jewelry of bamboo, made by the natives. ![]() In conclusion, there are a few points necessary to express to you dear readers. Perhaps you recall, that for years the vision of a supernatural bridge [guarded with angels and adorned with flower garlands,] between Indonesia and America had been seen off and on in the spirit, by more than one person. This vision has definitely become more clearly defined than ever before. The Holy Spirit has made it clear, that the link between The Holy Way/ Indonesia and America is integral to God’s kingdom purposes. We in the U.S.A. need a touch of the passion and fire that our Indonesian brothers and sisters have to bring to us, and they need our steadfast support of prayer, provision and communication. We must stand together in unity and faithfulness. As Paul the Apostle so aptly speaks: “Stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured.” [Colossians 4:12b] For the record, it needs to be stated also that The Holy Way Foundation [Indonesia] and the Holy Way Inc.[America] are ONE, bound together in unity of The Holy Spirit. Yes, we do continue to pray hopefully for eventual reconciliation with our other brothers and sisters. Finally, concerning future provision of holdings, land, chattel or buildings,– they cannot be owned by a person or persons since legal provision has been made to prevent this from happening. Ultimately, the ministry belongs to the Lord, and so long as we are obedient to build “His house” in accord with the original vision, we can move forward, knowing His peace. In recent days, the Lord has been showing many saints that The Holy Way is on the brink of a powerful wave of The Spirit! Ultimately, it will “wash over” many nations, for the upbuilding of The Body of Christ worldwide! This is our destiny unfolding! To the Glory of God the Father! Lolli Hart and Team |
RESPONSES
FROM HOLY CONVOCATION 2004
I had a wonderful time of worship and fellowship with many dear saints of God. I experienced a real appreciation of the power of prayer as people prayed in the Spirit, and I was encouraged to exercise that gift of the Spirit more. This was all kind of new for me as I grew up mainly in traditional Baptist style meetings. I also enjoyed the time spent in the small group meetings. It was especially enjoyable to experience the freedom of worship I felt while playing my saxophone, and I was encouraged by many who told me they enjoyed it. I will certainly come to the Holy Way often in the future.

As I process the blessings in my spirit and the overwhelming joy that I receive when in fellowship with those who love the Lord at Holy Convocation, it is always so special to me. I believe we left Bealeton this year this year with His favor because of His presence during convocation, and that He is walking ahead of us. Blessings!

Holy Convocation was a tremendous blessing to Helen and I this past July. The fellowship and worship were truly wonderful. Since I was healed at the January meeting in Bealeton the Lord has restored my strength and joy. The greatest joy I had came from working in the kitchen assisting Peggy Nelson in meal preparation. That would have been unthinkable for me a year ago because of the Multiple Sclerosis I had. The heat sensitivity and debilitating fatigue I suffered from would have made any activity in July out of the question much less working in the kitchen.

READERS’ WRITE Herry, just a little note to say while you were away, I received The Holy Way newsletter in the mail. You know how it goes with trying to read everything that comes in the mail these days. Well I decided to fix a glass of iced tea, sit outside by our pond and read your newsletter. I was so moved and touched with your article regarding “thirst,” thirst for the Lord. Your article was so well written and I’m sure many other reader’s were moved also. Thanks again for writing a great letter.

Herry, it is very exciting to hear what God is doing through The Holy Way. As I told you on the phone, in the past few months I’ve been given opportunities to meet worship leaders and songwriters here in St. Louis. I find them hungering for the intimate worship that we so enjoy at convocation. People are being blessed by reading the booklet “Worship and Ministry that you gave me to pass around. Thanks so much!

| A SCRIPTURE MEDITATION FOR
THE QUARTER The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has dawned. For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over His kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this. Isaiah 9:2-3, 6-7 Let us rejoice in His word
to us, and stand firm in faith and
perseverance.
