The Holy Way
A New Horizon Over the past seven years or so, the small Baltimore core group of The Holy Way faithfully gathered either in Catonsville or Bealeton for prayer and worship. Invariably at some point during the meeting, a voice would pipe up with, “Well, we’re all going through transition!” This statement bounced off our ears many, many times. As for me, I just didn’t get it. Even though Herry, Dolly and the Indonesians were making some inroads, and there was a bit of personal ministry here and there, to me, it was very apparent that our group was status-quo. We no longer attracted new blood; we were not able to go out for group ministry as in the past, and truthfully I reasoned, after all, isn’t life just one on-going transition anyway? Now however, I get it! The Holy Spirit was doing a very deep work of preparation in each of our hearts, all along the way, painful preliminaries if you will. Indeed all of us, the original core group and every member of The Holy Way, now face this major and painful transition, since the Lord called our beloved “mascot,” Edwin Stube from this life, to his well-deserved reward and eternal home.
As a result, we too have crossed over into a different realm and now stand facing a challenging new horizon. “We” includes all who have ever served and received abundant spiritual blessing through The Holy Way Ministry. For some, it’s been over a long period of time, for others, more recently. After Fr. Ed fell asleep in the Lord, several individuals were quickened by the word Jesus spoke as recorded in John 12:24: “Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds,” a very poignant word at this hour.
Let’s consider the present situation. Do we have reason to be fearful and fainthearted? By no means whatsoever! The call is as clear today for us, especially concerning America, as it was for a young couple back in the ‘60’s with a vision for Indonesia. They were willing to respond whole-heartedly, not counting the cost. So then, what is our response?
The Lord has highly favored The Holy Way by granting many parcels of land across the nation. It is clear that His desire is to have them developed and used for His purposes. We have only to recall Fr. Stube’s final prophetic word on January 20, 2001 at Bealeton. “As we begin to step out in faithfulness to our God, He will send in companions in great numbers. They will come from all over the world. I know that I will not be here to see the fruition of the vision, but many of you will. God will use you powerfully to fulfill His call. Take joy in the call the Lord has on your lives.”
Let everyone who hears what the Spirit is saying at this time, step out in faith. Also, let us press forward with vigor, running the race that lies before us, toward the new horizon. Lois Anderson of Ohio and Ruth Blosser of California concur, saying, “The horizon is white with harvest because of Fr. Ed’s faithful planting and the gathering will be great.” LET’S GO!

We are excited about the completion of the house here. The end of the building phase is in sight. Now for Part II, what has the Lord in store for us now? How has He prepared us for this next phase?
This past year and a half has been a time of growth and learning for us. We have learned that when the Lord shines His light before our feet it is enough to illumine the next step to take. We must continue walking in faith. He has provided for the work He wants done here and we have found Him to be faithful and true.
In times when we have felt we were close to becoming undone, He has graciously come along side us and once again made us new in Him. Thankfully, we are still His students and He will always be our teacher.
Our excitement is growing as we come closer and closer to this next phase in ministry. He has told us many times that “ the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.” We are proud to be part of that few. Only Jesus can fully and wonderfully solve our problems – as He has done and is still doing today. To diligently seek His face is what He requires of us. He takes care of the rest.

VISITED BY THE LORD’S PRESENCE
In 2 Corinthians 3:12-16 the apostle Paul wrote a wonderful passage about God’s presence. He said: "Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites from gazing at it while the radiance was fading away. But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away."
When I read these verses, I note that Paul was speaking about the Christian hope, which he calls the presence of God in the glory that lasts. We recently had a meeting with young new couples, Christians that have been coming to our place for worship and prayer. They said that every time we come together in worship and praise, seeking God’s presence, they just do not want to leave, because they feel peace and joy with God’s glory in the midst of us. God’s glory is made manifest by His presence when God’s people begin to enter into praise and worship in the Spirit. I know that we only experience just a tiny spark of His glory when this occurs, but there is a greater glory that awaits us very soon. We need to enter in beyond the veil to meet our King there, to see more of His beauty and glory.
Jesus has promised. "I will take you unto myself, so that where I am there you will be also." Living by such a hope is absolutely crucial for the Christian. We need a cleaning - up in preparation for this great event. John writes of the appearing of God saying, "Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself just as he is pure." I John 3:3. In this passage John the apostle is writing of the consequence of the true Christian’s hope, for himself and for the church. "Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold.”
The word 'bold' is a term concerning fervor to come into His presence. It means entering into a place where God dwells, freely, without fear of anything. John delivered this message that, if we believe, it would most certainly bring eternal glory to everyone who trusted in the Lord Christ. God has called all of us, the entire Church to declare this message, and the Lord has also given us the gifts of the Holy Spirit to strengthen us for the task.
Just about two weeks ago we had a weekend retreat with a small mixed group at our place. There were thirty to forty people present with two pastors. As is usual, they tried to go with their own agenda, listening to someone give speeches.
When they asked us to share, I had the opportunity to speak on how we can hear God’s voice and not be afraid to speak out the word of the Good Shepherd. About twenty minutes later I felt the Holy Spirit moving upon all of us and as we began to praise and lift up our hands, God’s glorious presence was in our midst. A person stood up with exhortation and discernment. The way he spoke gave me a chill because it was so powerful. (I had met him before, but the way he spoke that night, he was like a different person, very clear, with the authority of God in him). Next, one by one everyone was weeping. Some people fell down on their knees confessed their sins and asked for forgiveness. Some fell flat on their faces. A few people moved around to lay on hands for healing and deliverance. It shocked most of us because of these people, only a few knew of the baptism and gifts of The Spirit. I can truly testify, that night the presence of God’s Holy Spirit visited us. The meeting began at five o’clock in the evening but wasn’t finished till two o’clock in the morning. The next morning people had still not recovered from God’s visitation. They kept talking about what had happened the night before. A young woman came and told me how God touched her heart and that she wanted to bring her young peoples’ group for prayer and praise. She said: I can hardly wait for my youth group to experience God’s glory and also to do so myself again.” By the way, she is the one that was touched by The Holy Spirit mightily, for she was weeping for hours. One pastor said that he would bring his staff in Georgia down here to learn more about worship. The other pastor, from Maryland, asked Isak and Erwin to stay a week at his place to minister to him and to his family. God is an awesome God. I believe that the Church needs to be deeply moved in a high realm of worship in The Spirit. Our thinking in the mold of worldly patterns decreases as we are transformed in the renewal of our minds when we allow God’s Spirit to work in us. That is why every true believer needs to be utterly absorbed by God’s presence and the greatness of the truth. Our desire must be to want it to last forever, shining brighter and brighter, moment by moment.
Let’s say that the great need for us is to be “boldly humble” and without fear to diligently seek His presence. We must be "very bold" in serving the Lord in the holy of holies. The courtyard is past. If we are truly the temples of God then we should continue to carry the divine presence of God in our lives. This preparation will result in a great manifestation of the Glory of God, shining out brightly into a dark world. We are so grateful that many of you are a part of us in your daily prayers. You have been faithful by interceding for us and that’s why great things are happening in The Holy Way. We ask you to continue to covet God’s will for us in your devotions so that we will carry out this ministry and walk in His paths of righteousness. We encourage all of you to visit us and plan a stay with us, for it’s wonderful when God’s people meet together in His presence.
In Christ’s love,
Herry and Dolly

REPORT FROM INDONESIA
This letter comes from Yohanes Nugroho who was one of the students in Muara Mujan at the training center where Herry and Dolly Stube served in the interior of East Borneo for 12 years. He and his family live in a small remote village in East Java pioneering the work of God among Moslems. His obedience to the Great Commission means preaching the gospel. Because of this, the Lord will bring the peoples and tribes into the Kingdom of God.
Dear Mr. Herry and The Holy Way staff:
Greetings in the name of Christ’s love. Through this letter I wanted you and the Holy Way board members to know that we received $ 1,400.00, on March 20, 2001 to buy the house and the land for the prayer meetings. We give praise and thanks for this blessing, and our prayers are that the Lord will continue to bless all of you who are joined together in the body of The Holy Way.
Right now we are opening an evangelistic post in the village, with a population 99% Moslem. Since we are a minority group in the village, we unite our spirits and live in unity of fellowship in the body of Christ. The result is beginning to show. God is working to bring people who are having problems being bound by occultism to come to our prayer meetings.
Also, we are having a discipleship training program for new souls,. Our hope is, when they know they have become disciples of Christ, they will begin discipling others for Christ. With this we will fulfill the Great Commission that Jesus commanded us, to”make all nations My disciples.”We ask you to continue to pray that our government give more freedom to allow us to use the house for prayer meetings so that we can bring more souls to Christ.
This is my report. Again we thank you very much for your care. May our Lord Jesus bless you. Enclosed is a picture of the house bought with the money that we received from The Holy Way. This house was built in 1951. It looks very simple, but our family is very happy. I am holding my two year old daughter and my wife is beside me. In this house we are having prayer meetings.
Sincerely,
Yohanes Nugroho.
Bridge for Peace Remembers Father Ed
We were so grateful for Fr. Ed's presence in our lives and felt it was appropriate that we should be at St. Peter's Basilica on the Rome Prayer Walk when we received the news that he had died. During our last visit with Fr. Ed, we ate together at a Thai restaurant in Baltimore. He shared miracles from Indonesia; he spoke of a car that ran for miles, though the gas tank was empty for days; he shared miraculous healings. Most importantly, Fr. Ed shared his lifestyle of listening and obeying. Fr. Ed’s conviction that the Holy Spirit would lead us through every situation and establish new understandings in us if we would resist formulating a methodology encouraged us to persevere in our challenges.
Fr. Ed affirmed the pattern God had developed in us of seeking the Lord and relying on the Holy Spirit. His understanding strengthened us to continue in the establishment of Bridge for Peace.
He inspired us. Fr. Ed’s leadership style guided us. On occasion, I would be tempted to “resolve problems” during the intensity of mission trips. During those moments, Fr. Ed’s face came to me. Grace allowed me to step back and let it be. The Holy Spirit moved in and taught us, knit the team tighter and worked wonders around us.
Precious was Fr. Ed’s encouragement concerning the Rome mission. On our last visit, Fr. Ed spoke regarding the Rome mission. "I wondered if discipleship training could work in America, now I know that it can. You’re doing it. "
How bittersweet to read that Fr. Ed had the Rome Prayer Walk brochure in his kitchen to remind himself to pray for us. As bishops became cardinals, we knew Fr. Ed had been elevated. Not by men, but by our Father God. Fr. Ed’s encouragement, teaching and friendship blessed us. Thank you, Fr. Ed. We look forward to a reunion when we cross the final bridge.

A WORD OF WISDOM -- FROM INDONESIA
“The world has always seen service for the Lord to be activity. Only those who are near to Him have seen that a life apart of prayer, may and does so often, accomplish more than all the service man can offer the Lord. If man lived apart with Jesus and only went out to serve at His direct command, His Spirit could operate more and accomplish truly mighty things.”

THOSE WHO HAVE HOPE
With joy touched with grief, The Holy Way celebrated the homegoing of Fr. Ed Stube at an April 21st memorial at St. Timothy’s Church in the Baltimore suburb of Catonsville. Fr. Ed had at one time served on the staff of this church.
Old friends, family, and others touched by his life came together to glorify the Lord with singing, musical instruments, and dancing. Many prophetic voices were heard. One word was that no one should be a stumbling block, for God has called each of us by name. Another promised a “child” would be birthed.Fr. Mike Chapman shared his reflections, saying that Fr. Ed often said, “Good things always happen after I leave a place.” Fr. Mike described Fr. Ed as a modern day example of a Biblical apostle, evangelist, teacher, pastor, and father. But he said he was most amazed and humbled to be introduced by Fr. Ed as ,“my friend.” Fr. Mike reminded us how Fr. Ed would part with people with the farewell, “I appreciate you.”
The message given by Fr. Shawn Hill was, “We Do Not Grieve As Those Who Have No Hope.” 1 Thessalonians 4:13. He said that we are not expected to have no grief but our grief is mixed with a hope that is certain and sure because of the Cross and the empty tomb. Fr. Shawn said that when he thought he was at the end of his rope, Fr. Ed said,” We still have a few little things to do yet, like evangelize the whole world!”
Final remarks by Lynn Meckley, missionary to Indonesia, were that based on the character and attitude depicted in the writing of the book of Philippians, Fr. Ed could have written it. She referred to the statement that your attitude should be the same of Christ Jesus and quoted Philippians 3:17, “Join with others in following my example, brothers, and take note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you,” a reference also to Fr. Ed’s book According to the Pattern.
After the service, there was feasting on delicious cold foods and a great birthday cake for Fr. Ed’s son Herry who carries on the administration of The Holy Way and the Worship Center in Bealeton, Virginia.
Fellowship included our Holy Spirit – anointed pianist, Agung telling us how he started out without a suitcase and wound up in the United States saying, “Thank Jesus.”
Our hostess and much – loved coordinator of this event, Lolli Hart, modestly compared herself to the famous Dwight Eisenhower hostess, Perle Mesta.
The Lord has blessed The Holy Way with a heritage of harmony and unity because of Fr. Stube’s gentleness. “Thank Jesus.”

HOLY WAY LITERATURE WE FEEL VERY STRONGLY THAT THE LORD IS GIVING US REVELATION FOR THESE DAYS IN WHICH WE LIVE. It is a great burden on our hearts that this be communicated as widely as possible to the Body of Christ. At the June meeting of the Holy Way fellowships of Baltimore and Virginia, we felt that it would be much more in the pattern of the Holy Way if we not charge any set prices for our books and pamphlets, but that we distribute them freely, relying entirely on contributions as the Spirit leads.
