THE MASTER GOES DEEP-SEA FISHING

I am always blessed when reading the story in Luke 5: 1-11. Here we see Jesus standing by the lake at the Sea of Galilee. He is surrounded by crowds, teaching them the Word of God, when His eye is drawn to two boats at the water’s edge. They were left there by fishermen who were busy washing their nets. He decides to sit down in a boat that belongs to Peter, and asks him to put out a little from shore, continuing to teach the people. Finally when He finishes teaching, He says to Peter, “Simon, let’s go out into the deep water and let-down the nets for a catch.”
It’s interesting to note that Jesus the “Carpenter” would instruct the “seasoned fisherman” on how to catch fish? Can you picture the scene? And what is Simon Peter’s reply? “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything.” (It occurs to me that we, too, might answer the Lord in similar words.) Notice though, that Peter hasn’t finished, and continues his answer, probably scratching his head, “but because You say so, I will let down the nets.”
Here we see the “seasoned fisherman” obeying the “Carpenter” in total submission to His instruction. So what was the end result? Vs. 6-7 “When they (signifying all the disciples in the boats) had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. They then signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full, that they began to sink.”
I am convinced that God uses the same methods today for those who really desire to follow Him! After all, He never changes. He is the same, yesterday, today and forever! First, He invites us; He initiates; then He instructs. It is so important to give our full attention to these facts, in our “walk” with Jesus! When we listen to the Lord’s voice and obey Him by totally submitting our will to Him, we can expect great things to happen!
Recently, we received word that my brother Didik was critically ill, in fact, he was dying. We prayed hard, asked God for His mercy, and we meant it, knowing that His healing power is fully valid today. Can you guess what happened next? Jesus transformed Didik’s body! God did a miracle!
Now back to the story.Vs.8: Before returning to shore, Peter had a great experience in his inner-being. It was life-changing! After witnessing the miracle of the catch, listen to what he says. “Go away from me Lord, for I am a sinful man.” Wow! Most all of us have been like Peter, focusing on what we can do rather than what Jesus can do for us. He had offered his boat, his nets and his time. But now, since being with the “Carpenter” the tables have been turned. He sees his own unworthiness and knows firsthand the Lord’s Almighty Presence! He has nothing to offer Jesus but himself.
The question for us is, what do we have to offer? Can we spend more time with Him, asking Him to help us and transform us? Can we let go of our weariness, doubts, busyness, selfishness and so forth? Can we make Him #1 in our lives? Let our prayer be that we make it a priority to listen for His voice as we go out into “the deeps” of our faith. Then we too can expect miracles to come into our homes, families and churches.
Verse 10b-11: Now even though the miracle of the catch had accomplished its goal for the disciples, we read here that Jesus had another purpose in mind, far greater than deep-sea fishing. His final remarks to them were: “Don’t be afraid, from now on, you will catch men. So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed Him.”

My dear friends, God still makes possibility out of the impossible. Right from His throne room in heaven, He pours out blessings upon His children. Today, Jesus issues the same call to us as He did to Peter and the other disciples. All we have to do is just listen and obey. Let Him capture our hearts then, and let us launch out into the deep waters of our faith in order to “catch” hearts and souls for the Kingdom of God! We will be such a blessing to others when we do. And always remember, let’s expect miracles!

A Report from THE HOLY WAY FOUNDATION

Shalom! Jesus is Lord and God is good!
We, the congregation of the Body of Christ in Manado have been encouraged and guided by God’s peace to send this report to you, The Holy Way/U.S.A.
We would like to share what is going on with our fellowship here at the Manado Bible Training Center.
The fellowship is doing very well, moving speedily by His blessing and grace alone. The worship in the spirit and the gifts are becoming more and more a part of our everyday lifestyles. The prophetic words spoken through the body strengthen us and give us more freedom in our souls and spirits.
We have been doing evangelism in different places: at Village Lolak, Village Kema and Village Maumbi, where many souls have been won to Jesus. They come for water baptism, then to our training center for discipleship.
Also, our students are involved in preaching the Gospel among the crowds in the inner city; recreation areas in the park and youth groups elsewhere. When they begin to preach, following with worship, we see many young people get set free of their bondages. They then make confession and repent of their sins. God is doing a mighty work in the lives of youth here!
We sent teams to our small branches, the training centers in Tondano, Liwutung, Bitung and Kotamobagu. Also, we sent a team of 4 people out to Papua New Guinea; 2 people to the center of Sulawesi; 2 people to Bandung, West Java; 2 people to Batam, near Singapore; 4 people to North East timor; 3 people to Surabaya and 1 person out to East Jawa.
Please continue to pray for us and all the students who are ministering in villages and cities.
May God bless you and our prayer is always with you!
